Total time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:
Half cup brown rice flour
One teaspoon of coconut oil
One tablespoon of unsweetened plain curd
One egg
Half a teaspoon of honey (not recommended for puppies younger than one year)

Kitchen tools:
Microwave-friendly ceramic mug or bowl
Sieve
Measuring cups and spoons (optional)

Instructions for Christmas Cake Recipe for Dogs:

  • Take a bowl and sieve the flour into it.
  • Crack your egg into the bowl and combine your flour and egg well.

  • Slowly mix in your curd, water, honey, and coconut oil. Whisk them well together till you reach a nice, gooey, consistency.

  • Let the batter rest while you grease your mug with some coconut oil or ghee.

  • Pour your batter into your bowl and microwave it for two minutes on high, or till it rises and is well-cooked. (You can poke a knife or fork through the cake to check if it is cooked all the way through. The knife should come out clean with no batter stuck to it).

  • Take it out of the microwave and let it cool for five to ten minutes so that it is easy to remove.

  • Voila! Your droolicious Christmas cake is ready!

Chef’s Tips: Add your dog’s favourite fruits (strawberries, bananas, apples, etc.) in moderation on top of the cake for decoration.
Storage Tips: This cake for dogs should ideally be prepared before consumption and served fresh and warm if you want to score brownie points with your dog. Any excess cake can be stored in the fridge for three days and in the freezer for seven days.

Nutritional Values:
  • Eggs: Eggs are rich in protein and choline, improving your dog’s skin and coat health. They also carry important nutrients (selenium, lutein & zeaxanthin) that act as antioxidant defence systems for your dogs.

  • Plain curd: Good source of probiotics for dogs

  • Brown rice flour: Good source of fibre as well as magnesium and manganese, two essential minerals that are relatively scarce in other food sources

  • Honey: Strengthens the immune system

  • Coconut oil: Supports good skin & coat health, carries antibacterial and antifungal properties, and promotes cognitive function
FAQs:
1) Are there any alternatives to brown rice flour?
Yes, you can use oats flour or millet flour.

2) My dog is allergic to chicken eggs, what else can I use?
Duck or quail eggs can be used instead but remember quail eggs contain a lot of heat.

3) Any alternative to coconut oil?
You can use olive oil or ghee but don't increase the quantity.

4) Can this cake be served as an alternative to my dog’s meal?
No, this can be given as a snack, but not instead of your dog's meal. Please measure out the serving size according to your dog’s diet and daily nutritional requirements.

5) Is this recipe human-grade?
Yes, this recipe is human-grade.

6)  I don’t have a microwave oven. Can I cook it on a stovetop?
Yes, you can cook it using the double boiler method. Prepare the cake batter, as described above, and pour it into a greased ceramic or stainless-steel vessel. Cover it with an aluminium foil with 3–4 slits. Bring half a litre of water to a boil in a larger pot and place your covered bowl on a kitchen stand inside it. Cover your pot for 30 minutes or till it is well cooked.

7) We don't cook non-vegetarian food for our dogs at home. Instead of eggs, what can we use?
One teaspoon of hung curd or plain curd can be used instead of egg.
Note:
  • Always keep fresh water available for your dogs.

  • Don't feed this instead of meals. The serving size should be planned according to your dog’s diet and daily nutritional requirements.

  • Skip the honey if the cake is being fed to a puppy younger than one year of age.

  • The cooking time may vary depending on the quantity.
