Are Café Visits a Good Idea for Your Dog?

Pet-friendly cafés are a wonderful step toward making our world more inclusive for our dogs. But it’s just as important to make sure our dogs actually enjoy the experience, too.

Not all dogs are comfortable being in a closed-off space filled with strangers, other dogs, and a lot of unpredictable energy. Some may get overwhelmed, especially with people who don’t know how to approach a dog properly or other dogs that are a little too friendly. If we miss those early signs of stress, such as lip licks, yawns, etc., it can snowball into barking, jumping, or even snapping, making it stressful not just for your dog but for everyone else there, too.

While it is a thoughtful gesture not to want to leave our dogs at home as we step out, their comfort needs to come first. If needed, you can always work with a trainer or behaviourist to slowly build your dog’s confidence before bringing them into busy, social spaces.

So Mumbaikars, the next time you're planning a brunch, work-from-café day, or birthday bash, don’t leave your pets behind. Let them tag along and enjoy the day with you.

Happy Café Hopping!! 🐾
